Park Overview

Mikumi National Park is one of Tanzania’s most accessible parks, covering about 3,230 km². It shares its ecosystem with the larger Selous/Nyerere National Park and is known for open savannah landscapes similar to the Serengeti. The park hosts a variety of wildlife including lions, elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffalos, hippos and over 400 bird species. Established in 1964, Mikumi serves as an important link in the southern safari circuit and is praised for its scenic views and wildlife density, especially in the Mkata Floodplain.

Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Zanzibar Seaport / Airport – Dar es Salaam – Mikumi National Park

Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Zanzibar. You'll be transferred to either Zanzibar Seaport or the airport for your journey to Dar es Salaam. Upon arrival, our driver will meet you and drive in a comfortable car for the scenic 5–6 hour drive to Mikumi National Park. Will have lunch at Morogoro town.

Along the way, enjoy captivating views of the Tanzanian countryside before arriving at the park in the afternoon for your first game drive. Mikumi is rich in wildlife and offers excellent viewing opportunities. Keep your camera ready for sightings of giraffes, Grant’s zebras, Cape buffaloes, wildebeests, yellow baboons, hippos, Defassa waterbucks , elephants lions and more. As the sun sets, you'll head to the lodge located inside or near the park where a warm dinner awaits and you’ll spend the night immersed in the wild.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive – Return to Dar es Salaam – Zanzibar

Start the day with an early morning game drive ( 5-6 hours) through the golden savannahs of Mikumi National Park. After soaking in the serene beauty and spotting more wildlife, you’ll return to your lodge for a hearty breakfast.

Then, pack your belongings and begin the drive back to Dar es Salaam in time for your evening flight to Zanzibar. Upon arrival, our driver will transfer you back to your hotel in Zanzibar.
